In my MS Office 2013 Word, I am able to insert a formula. But the subscript and superscript options are greyed out when I go into insert formula mode, and I am unable to use it. Can you please help me.  The  Word version has the latest update of Apr 14, 2020.

The formula is Q = C (Psubscipt r squared - Psubscript wf squared) to the power n

But I am able to write it like Q = C (Pr2-Pwf2)n only.

Suggest how can I make Word to do it right.

It can certainly be done using the Subscripts and Superscripts utilities

However, you do need to think ahead a bit and probably the best series of steps to use would be

    1. Insert the Q = C
    2. Insert a superscript construct from the Superscripts and Subscripts gallery
    3. Select the dotted square after the C and insert a pair of brackets from the Brackets gallery
    4. With the dotted square inside the brackets selected, Insert the minus sign form the Symbols Gallery
    5. Put the selection between the ( and the - and then from the Superscripts and Subscripts gallery, insert the first item from the Common Superscripts and Subscripts gallery and then with the selection between the - and the ) insert a second of those items
    6. Replace both sets of x and y with the required letters and add the superscript n after the )
