Question

I'm trying to add error bar to my graph on excel but I don't know how. I looked online and it shows that there is a green plus sign next to the graph to access the chart elements but when I click on the graph there is no green plus sign. Is there any other way I can go about accessing the chart elements?

Hi Adrian,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused at your end.

You mentioned that you can’t add Error bar in the chart, and you can’t see Chart Element button either.

Generally, we can only add error bar to 2D chart. May I know which kind of chart you are using? For your reference: Add, change, or remove error bars in a chart

If you are using 2D chart, to narrow down the issue, we suggest you create a new workbook and check whether issue persists. 

If it only happens to specific workbook, can you check with other chart types? To better understand this issue, could please provide the screenshot of this issue and the Excel ->About Excel page for us?

never mind.....restarted excel and the menu option is now available.

I have a similar question. But I do not see an option for custom error bars under the add chart option-see screen shot. Using excel for Mac. v 16.41....any ideas?

While your chart is selected, on the Chart Design tab of the Ribbon click the Add Chart Element button (the first one on the left of the Ribbon).

Keep in mind that not all chart types support error bars.

@Ivy - It's pretty rude to give Mac users instructions for Windows software. Please be careful about this.
