Hi Support

Hi,

We have an Excel file on sharepoint we update every day. This file automatically saves our changes.

However we had a problem with it not saving yesterday and when trying to save today, it is not able to.

I have tried to save the file with a new name with no success.

Do you know what might cause this?

This excel file runs Macro so I don't know if this might cause the issue but it just suddenly happen and it worked normally for a long

time. This file is shared with multi-users. I have checked the Onedrive and its online and works fine so it was not offline.

Please advise!

Best regards

Sarmad Nazar

    Hi Sarmad Nazar,

Sorry for the trouble caused at your end.

From the description, we understand you are working on the Excel file containing Macros which is stored in your OneDrive for Business and shared with other users, the problem you are encountering is AutoSave was disabled when you open the file, you can’t use the Save As to save the files as a new file either. But, it worked without a problem before.

First, we would like to convey that the AutoSave will be disabled only if the Excel workbook is having features which don’t support in Excel Online. Moreover, macro-enabled workbooks can be opened in Excel Online, but the macros present in it can’t be run and AutoSave will also be enabled based on our test.

In this scenario, we would like to suggest you provide the screenshot after trying to enable the AutoSave feature in the problematic Excel workbook. It will help us to identify the cause why the AutoSave is disabled.

Open the Problematic Workbook> Click on AutoSave> Take a screenshot of the prompt and share it with us.

In addition, can I know whether the option “AutoSave OneDrive and SharePoint Online file by default on Excel” is enabled in the Excel Options? Open the Excel> Options> Save> Save workbooks.

Last, to narrow down whether the problem is caused by the Macros, can you create a new Excel workbook enabled with Macros and test whether the AutoSave is enabled by opening in the application? Moreover, does the shared users also have the same problem at their end? Can you let other users save this file as a new file and try to AutoSave it to the original location?

Appreciate your understanding and stay safe 😊

    Best Regards,

    Ivy
