Unable to delete / reset class notebook

Hello,

I am trying to delete or to do a "factory reset" of my class notebook embedded in Microsoft teams. I have already triedthis solution but my class notebook is under "shared" in OneDrive and can't be deleted.

Also, under the OneNote Class Notebook link https://www.onenote.com/edu/classnotebook, I am unable to find the class notebook to add/remove students. When I click on the 4th option of Manage Notebooks however, I am able to see my notebook.

Would you have any suggestions please? Thank you.

    Hi Jess,

Thanks for posting in the community, I’m glad to offer help.

First I’d like to explain that the embedded class notebook is created by “SharePoint App”, that’s why you can’t delete it in your OneDrive as you are not the owner.

In fact, every team is a SharePoint site, and all the contents including the embedded class notebook are stored in the corresponding site. You can go to File tab > Open in SharePoint > Site contents > Site assets to locate it,  however, based on my test, we can’t delete it even I am a global admin who has the highest permission.

This seems to be a limitation, as a workaround, if the team that the class notebook belongs to doesn't store too much important files, the best solution is to create a new class team with a new embedded class notebook.

If you don’t want to leave that team for some reason, I’m afraid you might have to delete the contents of the class notebook manually as we are not allowed to delete the whole notebook directly.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience, in this case, I recommend you vote for the following idea or submit a new one in UserVoice, it is the best place to let the related team hear your needs, anyone’s suggestion could have a chance to be adopted by Microsoft, your understanding will be highly appreciated.

    Reference:Delete Class Notebook

Hope the above information can give you some guidance and help you a little, please feel free to post back if you have any concerns.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

    Hi Jess,

Thanks for your trusting, to be clearly, you want to add/remove students under the second option “Add or remove students”, but you can’t see the notebook which you can see it under the fourth option “Manage notebooks”, right?

In this case, the second option “Add or remove students”, we can only see those created through https://www.onenote.com/edu/classnotebook (normal class notebook), and the fourth option “Manage notebooks” will list all class notebooks including normal class notebooks and team class notebook.

How do you judge whether it is a normal class notebook or team class notebook?

    -      By observing whether there is a “Teams” after the notebook name

If you want to manage the students for a team class notebook, please go to the corresponding team in Microsoft Teams > Manage team to add/remove students/teacher instead of in https://www.onenote.com/edu/classnotebook.

Besides, since it is a public community, to help other members get useful information more efficiently, we usually focus on one question in one thread, if you have other different question, I suggest you post a new thread and there will be professional support members to help you, your understanding will be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. As advised, I have voted for the idea to allow for the OneNote deletion.

Would you be able to help me with my 2nd question please?

under the OneNote Class Notebook link https://www.onenote.com/edu/classnotebook, I am unable to find the class notebook to add/remove students. When I click on the 4th option of Manage Notebooks however, I am able to see my notebook.

    Thank you.
