Setting default printer settings in Microsoft Word

Basically, I have the most recent version of Microsoft Word. I have a couple of settings that I want to be the default, such as printing two-sided and different margins. I know how to do those manually, but each time, I have to select these settings manually. I wanted to know if there was a way to have it automatically default to these for all documents. How do I set these printer settings by default?

The margins are set through Page Setup. To change the margins for all new documents, set the desired margins in the dialog and click Set as Default. (See http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm for more.)

For duplexing, you will need to set this as the default through Windows Settings | Devices | Printers and Scanners. Select your printer and click on Manage. On the Manage your device page, click on Printer properties, and then choose the desired settings in the Properties dialog for your printer.

    Hi

As Suzanne says, you should create a template with the margin settings you want and use that as the basis for new documents.

For the duplex printing, in Window create a new driver for your printer (re-install the printer to a new name0 and set the defaults for that printer to be what you want. Then set that printer as your default printer in Windowns.

The margin trick worked, but I still have to manually select the option to print double-sided every time I select Ctrl+P instead of it being that way by default. I would like the default settings between my fingers hitting Ctrl+P and clicking on the Print button to have it double-sided without me having to manually do anything in between. How do I go about that?

As I said, you need to set that option, not in Word but in the properties of your printer in Windows. Sorry if I was not clear on that. As I said, you want to modify the printer in Settings. Each printer driver will have its own properties and default controls so your may not look like the screenshot.

Once you have saved those changes, make that the default printer in Windows if it is not already.

The thing is, Word can set what a page will look like, but it can't set a default for duplex printing. That has to be done through the printer driver. Your printer may not have the ability to do that.

Here is another printer's method to set this:
