I have an excel which I worked on a lot, and had restricted access to.

I am trying to give permission to another user but i get the following massage:

you are running a version of microsoft office that does not support full control

attached snipping of the full massage.

I did not had an update prior, and i created this permission from this computer.

after this issue I tried updating office and the issue still occurs. my version is: 2006(build 13001.20266)

I would appreciate any help on the matter on how solving it.

I have 58 query with data on this file, I prefer not to move them to another file, and I am not sure exactly how

    Hi Leo_675,

Thanks for posting in the community.

According to the screenshot, you don’t have the “Full control” permission. I would like to collect more information about your situation.

    1. May I know where does this workbook store, in the local or online?
    2. Are you the author? Or is there any other user with Full Control permission to the document? You could let them to give you Full Control permission.
    3. Please try to click “Request additional permissions” in the screenshot and check what will display.

If you have any updates, please feel free and come back to share with us.

    Regards,

    George

thank you George for the help.

    1. the file is stored at the server, i work with it for quite a while in the same way. it worked for a me 2.5 weeks ago. I have the same issue on several files with this restriction.
    2. I am not the author on this file (I created the file from one sheet I had and added 99% of the work) i am the owner and i created this restriction. I have another file like this one which i am the author, same problem over there.
    3. one i click on ask the permission, it opens a new email to sent to my mailbox since i am the owner and i give permissions to others according to how I set it up

FYI, I tried saving the file in different ways, and tried logging into my account from a different computer as well.

    nothing worked.

    Hi Leo_675,

    Thanks for posting back.

I have tested on my side in version 2006 and I cannot reproduce the same error message.

May I know whether the message “…Office that does not support Full Control” will pop on if you create a new Excel document and set Restrict Access?

If so, the issue is likely caused by the local environment.

If not, the issue is likely caused by the specific document. Since you mentioned the document worked for you 2.5 week ago, the issue may be caused by the specific version of Office. You could try to uninstall the current version of Office and download the previous version of Office, then check whether the issue will happen.

Also, I would like to know what kind of Office product do you use. Please take a screenshot, click File> Account, the information is under Product Information.

If you have any updates, please feel free and come back to share with us.

    Regards,

    George

    Thank you george,

on new file i create I cannot create the same access restriction, and cannot edit on other files.

I believe as shown in the printscreen that the issue occur due to some kind of an update.

I am still don't really know how to solve it.
