FILTER function missing Excel for Mac ver 16.39

I'd rather rinse my mouth out with a Sig Sauer than debug Microsoft issues and pray this one is not self induced but I do not think so.

I have ver 16.39 running on a Mac desktop installed last year. It has the FILTER function.

I upgraded my OS X on my laptop today to accept the same build and it is also Ver 16.39 but IT DOES NOT HAVE THE FILTER FUNCTION.

I don't know why the good Lord chose me for this problem but at the moment I'd rather walk barefoot across Texas in the summer than deal with this. It's probably something simple; man made it, man can fix it. Just why oh why Lord have you tested me with finding that man?

Please advise. Thank you.

    Hi John,

    Sorry to hear that.

According to your description, we could understand your concern is why you don’t have filter function. Based on our research, we found that this function is currently available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. Reference: FILTER function

In this way, you could check your subscription via click Excel>About Excel. If available, you could click this icon to upload the image and share it with us.

    Have a good day!

    Best Regards,

    Sandro

    Hi

The FILTER function is available only to certain groups. From Excel's Help:

    FILTER function

Note: This function is currently available to Microsoft 365 subscribers in Current Channel. It will be available to Microsoft 365 subscribers in Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel starting in July 2020. For more information on how features are rolled out to Microsoft 365 subscribers, see When do I get the newest features in for Microsoft 365.

    Sandro-

Thank you for the reply and your information is aligned with what I found on MS's Excel Help. Consequently, I was frustrated to no end ESPECIALLY because I was with a client helping one of his employees perform a multi-tabbed data report and I looked like a fool b/c I sent him a spreadsheet the night before from my desktop (with the Filter function) but when I tried to do some ninja mambo jambo (read: use a formula for a cell) for him the next day at his workstation, my laptop could not execute..........

As for the 'why', I cannot explain. With the Lord as my witness, under the Formulas bar, Insert Function button, Filter was NOT available....no matter how many times I tried. I must have re-read the help description a dozen times to no avail UNTIL I went to the top menu bar under INSERT, selected function from the drop down, and lo and behold, there it was. Plain as day. Now I have it and my Sig Sauer is back in the drawer and I've postponed my barefoot walk across Texas.

    Thanks for chiming in.

    ~John

    Jim-

Thanks for rolling in and adding some information. See my reply to Sandro's post. Maybe somebody knows why entry through the top menu bar provides different outcomes than entering from the doc header bar/function button.

    Cheers!
