Labeling Excel data groups

Labels for Excel data groups that expand/collapse. Is it possible to put a label next to the +/- buttons that I’ve created, which are in the margin outside of my Excel worksheet? You get these buttons from the menu by selecting Data, then Group, and then (in this case) Row (and clicking Okay).

    Hi LF,

Thanks for posting your question on our community.

According to your description, I did a test on my side like that:

But unfortunately, there is no current option to set label as a button out of worksheet.

If you want to filter columns by labels, you can select columns you want to name as a label, and set a name like test in the Name Box (on the left side of the command bar), then each time you type "test" in the Name Box, it will immediately place the cursor on the group you set up before like that:

Meanwhile, if you have more ideas or suggestions to this feature, I would like to recommend that you can post your ideas in UserVoice. Our team is happy to listen to the user's suggestions so that we can understand the user's concern better and update a satisfied version later.

If my reply is not matched the answer you want, please post back more detail and I will keep working for you.

Looking forward to hearing from your reply.

    Best Regards,

    Higgins

    Hello, Higgins.

Thank you very much for this information. It is helpful to know that Excel cannot do what I am trying to do - and I appreciate the additional tip regarding the "test" that you described.

My aim in creating the labels was to help users navigate data lists in the worksheet; without such labels, I will need to create Instructions regarding how to use the +/- buttons. That's okay, but more cumbersome and less user-friendly.

When ideas are acted upon from UserVoice, are they readily available or potentially incorporated into some future version of Excel?

Thanks again for addressing my question!!!!!

    Regards,

    LF

    Hi LF,

    Sorry for the delay reply.

We totally understand your situation that it will be more convenient for you if there is such a label name feature  As you post one idea or vote for one you like, I would like to recommend that you can keep tracking for this idea, the Dev team will reply in the UserVoice directly, if they accept the idea. Also, we will post related information here as soon as possible if we get any update.

Besides, there is a Microsoft website which list all the in-dev/rolling out new features for the Office 365, I would also recommend you following this site to get the latest feature updates information:

    Your understanding is highly appreciated.

Hi, yes i would definitely vote for this feature to be inserted into excel.

I  group alot of Columns and hide them for view. Something like a label at the top would help my managers understand what each grouping means!

    currently i have 6 groupings!
