Cannot add or view embedded Objects anymore in Microsoft Excel ! ( "Cannot Start the Source Application for this Object")

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was able to embed and object (like a .jpg, .png or .txt file etc) and make it appear as an icon in a cell in my spreadsheet

After rebooting my Desktop (Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit) the insert Object icon has disappeared

I am also not able to open any embedded files (pictures) anymore, in any of my existing files!

I get the following message:    "Cannot Start the Source Application for this Object"

Any idea why this is happening? It is really frustrating and I can't find any solutions online...

Thanks!

    Hi Loizos,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to the error message, you can try to right click the object > select "Package Shell Object" > Properties > change the "Open with" application in the property pane.

If that doesn't work, could you please provide a screenshot of your Product Information? It would be helpful for us to check whether it is a certain issue, as shown below, please note to mask your email address.

Hope the above suggestion can be helpful, please feel free to let me know if there is any progress, I'll continue to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

    Hi Arck

Somehow, I was able to resolve the issue after quitting Excel and reopening all files.

I believe there was a Microsoft Office 365 update that caused this issue temporarily

It looks to be working now

    Thanks!
