As of three hours ago, I cannot access any Excel or Word documents from within the Documents Folder.  However, if if there are Excel or Word Documents in "RECENTS" or I have Shortcuts to specific documents on my Desktop, they can be accessed  and opened.  What is going on? Please help. I have a 365 subscription that expires 02/2021 - running on the latest Windows 10. I see that there are no Titles for any of the documents.

    Hi Claire,

Thanks for choosing Microsoft products. It’s my pleasure to assist you.

According to your description, we kindly assume your concern is unable to access the Excel and Word files within the documents folder. In this way, we would like to suggest you:

1.Update to the latest version. We sincerely suggest users update timely to get feature updates, security and non-security. Reference:

    Install Office updates

Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date)

2.Run online repair to check the outcome. Reference:  Repair an Office application

If the issue persists, would you mind providing the following information for our troubleshooting?

1.Your Office subscription screenshot via File>Account>Product Information. In order to protect your privacy, please help us mask your PII, such as email address. You could click this icon to upload the image.

2.May we know will this issue also occur in PowerPoint?

3.We noticed that you mentioned [cannot access], we would like to double-confirm that do you mean you click the file but there is no action, or is there any error message? If so, could you please share more information or upload the message screenshot for us?

4.May we know are you able to view files in Word Online or Excel online normally?

Wish you have a good day!

    Best Regards,

    Sandro

Thanks for the responses! Updates did not work, I had to reinstall Office (Microsoft 365. Personal subscription). It would have been nice if Microsoft had sent out notifications - as it was, I spent about 8 hours tying to fix and spent  sleepless night!
