Arck Tang is correct that PDF is not a supported file type on a Mac. In fact, Object Linking & Embedding [OLE] is a Windows technology which never has been supported by the Mac operating system. Microsoft does have special dispensation from Apple to implement OLE for Word & Excel file types but that's it. Some other file types (including PDF) can be inserted as objects but are rendered simply as single-page images.

However, Arck apparently did not notice that your Office software is significantly out of date. Version 16.36 is the current build on macOS 10.13.x or later, version 16.16.21 if using macOS 10.10.x-10.12.x. Use this link to install the current version of MAU if your present version is not notifying you of available updates.

    Hi gsameer4,

Thanks for posting in the community, I’m glad to offer help.

According to your description, I’m afraid I have to tell you that inserting PDF files to Excel for Mac is unavailable currently, I suggest you vote for the following idea or post a new one in UserVoice, it is the best way to the related team hear your needs, anyone’s suggestion could have a chance to be adopted by Microsoft.

Reference:Please add a function to insert .pdf documents into excel speadsheets

I’m sorry for the inconvenience to your work, if you have a Windows device, you can try to continue your work on Excel for Windows as inserting PDF files is available for Excel for Windows.

Hope the above information can help you a little, you are welcome to post back if you have any question about Microsoft Office in the future, we are always willing to help you, and hope you are all well during this period, stay safe and take care.

    Best Regards,

    Arck
