Hi Tim,
I do not have a French keyboard. I assume you are using the AZERTY layout.
If I understand your question, you want to be able to type certain characters with Ctrl+Alt+1, Ctrl+Alt+2, Ctrl+Alt+3 but that does not work in Word. The reason it would not work in Word is those are assigned in the program to apply Headings 1, 2, 3.
If that is the problem, you should be able to go into keyboard reassignment and assign them in Word, overriding the defaults. If you can specify the symbol you want, you can assign it to the key. Note that these often already have a shortcut key assigned. The
headings on buttons will be different in the French version. I hope the screenshot helps.
File > (1) Options > (2) Customize the Ribbon > (3) Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize

(4) Category: Common Symbols (5) pick the symbol
(6) click in the box for the new shortcut key and press the shortcut you want
(7) assign the shortcut.
Again, note that there may already be a shortcut for it; yours would be added.
By default, these shortcuts will be assigned to your normal template, which is somewhat fragile and not all that portable/transferable. You may want to create a custom template and save your shortcuts in them. Then that template could be
stored as a Global Template by placing it in your Word Startup Folder .
The shortcuts would be available in all of your work in Word and could be easily moved to another computer system.
