everything is highlighting!

Question

For some reason whenever I click anything with my mouse, I just click once and i don't move my mouse or anything, it highlights one letter. Then if I highlighted the l in "monkey" spelled "monley" and pressed K , The Kit would replace the l and move the highlight to the E! it is awful I just want to change where my cursor is and it highlights and won't un-highlight.

According to your description, I would like to collect more information.

1. For the highlighting, do you mean the text will be highlighted with color?
2. Does the issue exist in other documents? You could create a new document to test.
3. Does the issue exist in other apps, like Excel?
4. Your Office version and system version

Office version: click File> Account, the information is beside About Word

Here are the suggestions you could try:

1. Update Office version
2. Repair Office applications and choose Online Repair
3. Set Word into Safe Mode and check whether the issue happens
4. Please try to change another mouse to test.
