Does "search" read content inside PDF docs?

I am running an in-house training session and a question we need to answer for attendees is when they use "search" to look for files, does it search text within PDF docs as well as contents of Office docs?

    Hi Karen,

    Yes, you can search for the content present inside the PDF files and as well as contents in Office documents too. For more reference, you can check this article: Default crawled file name extensions and parsed file types in SharePoint Server (This article applies to SharePoint Online also).
