Notification within document

I would like to turn off the suggestion to 'go to the last place' in a document.  I often don't add things where I last was, and the notification takes extra time when entering information.  How do I do this?

I'm sorry - I do not have permission to access Registry Entries on our company computers.  Also, I would not be comfortable doing so.  Is there no way to turn this off within the program?  Do people really prefer to have this option?  To me is it inconvenient, as it prevents typing where I wish to unless I take time to delete the notification first.  My coworkers have the same problems, as we all access the documents on our server.

Jamie, if you don't want to edit the registry as Waqas suggested, you can simply ignore the notification when it appears. Just move the cursor to where you want to enter new information. When you click there, the notification will disappear.

    Hi JamieTrask,

As per your description, “I would like to turn off the suggestion to 'go to the last place' in a document” may I confirm with you does it mean you want to turn off feature "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" in Word 365 document. If yes, then you may try following steps to disable it from registry.

     1. Press Windows + R and type regedit and press Enter to open registry.

    2. Navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Reading Locations

3.Delete all the sub keys under Reading Locations.

    1. To make this key read-only, right click over it and pick Permissionsand make sure only Read option is checked.
    2. Click on Advanced in the above shown window. Now uncheck the option “Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object”.
    3. Click Apply followed by OK.

***WARNING:***Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad

The user interface doesn't provide an option to turn off the "Pick up where you left off" prompt.

I find that the prompt fails to display rather often, which is a good thing when you don't like it...

    Mr. Freedman -

I understand what you are saying, but repeatedly, I go to type in at the top of the page, I can't type, and then I realize the pop-up is there at the bottom preventing me from adding data/updates.  I would prefer to turn it off, as I rarely go to the most recent activity.  It is not an awful thing, but inconvenient.  My coworker and I both dislike this notification.

Thank you for responding, but please let me know how to turn it off.
