Embedding media error

PowerPoint will not embed media.  The file size never changes, and when I try to reopen it, I get an error:  PowerPoint found a problem with content in filename.pptx.  When I press repair, I get another error: "PowerPoint couldn't read some content in filename[repaired] and removed it.  Please check your presentation to see if the rest of it looks ok.".

The repaired file shows my video as a  picture.  When I try to enable editing and edit it, I get: "PowerPoint was unable to locate the linked multimedia file \ppt\slides\null Do you want to locate it yourself?"

The whole process starts again when I try to add the file back in.

I've tried all the suggested trust center fixes.  The file is not locked.  It's happening on several devices, but not on all.  Reinstalled, tried 32 and 64.  Tried updated and not. I'm at a loss.

For better multimedia compatibility, use the 32-bit version, which has a complete set of CODECs. But first, try an Office repair.
