clear all formatting button

"Clear all formatting" button is adding format, not clearing it.  It was working fine a few days ago, but now when I click on it, the bold button comes on and bolds the text but it does not clear any of the formatting.  How do I fix this?  I'm using Windows 10, Word 13.

    By default, the Clear All button just applies the Normal style. Perhaps your Normal style has gotten formatted as Bold?
