Word Format

I'm having troubles with my formatting on a word document where I've set up my levels as follows:

  1. 8.0
  2. 8.1
  3. 8.1.1
  4. 8.1.1.1
  5. etc

But on my screen level 4 stop the counting and just are repeated.

For example in section 8.2 it shows the following:

Level 2: 8.2

Level 3: 8.2.1

Level 4: 8.2.1.2

Level 4 shows 8.2.1.2 for all sections when it should show 8.2.1.1.

I've been trying to define a new multi level list but it doesn't seem to work.

If anyone can help that'd be great,

Thank you,

    Hi

Step by step instructions for setting up your numbering can be found here:

This is a link to pages on one or more trusted Word MVP websites. Those pages contain accurate safe information that I think will help you.

This method may seem a bit of work but not using it for important work is asking for trouble. Once you have it set, you can save a template with it and use that template for new documents where you need good numbering that can survive editing.
