I have opened an excel sheet that was embedded in a Powerpoint document.
I saved it as an excel file. I then began editing format of dates [changed from general 5 digit number [e.g. 42644] to a specific Month/Year format [Oct-16]. I then saved the file again. When I reopened it, the Month/Year format was gone and everything reverted back to the 5 digit general number format.
How can I stop this from happening?

Dear David,
I do a test and I can't reproduce the issue in our environment.
I'd like you to confirm whether you are using the latest version of the Office applications. If no, I suggest you update the version, restart the computer and then do a test to see the result. Meanwhile, I'd also like you to upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the PowerPoint application you are using for our reference. You can access the page via clicking on File>Account.
Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.
Moreover, I suggest you log into the computer with the administrator account>go to Control Panel>Programs>right-click on the Office applications' icon>check whether there is an Online Repair option. If yes, click on the option, restart the computer and then do a test to see the outcome.
If you create a new Excel file with the cell value, embed it in a newly created PowerPoint file, change the cell format and then reopen the PowerPoint file, what's the result?
Best Regards,
Cliff
