Cannot write on a new document

When I open a new document in Word 2016 and try to type on it, it won't let me. The only thing that happens is a sound is emitted by the computer indicating that something is wrong (like a kind of beep, but softer).

Usually, then, if I want to create a new document, I have to open an already existing document, to to File and click on "New". That way works. But my question is when I try to create a new document by simply clicking on "new" after clicking on the icon, it won't let me.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
