Changing file titles for objects embedded in Excel

I've been using the embed objects feature in Excel to organize files. However, it can be difficult to navigate from one opened embedded file to the next if there are several open at the same time-- usually they have a generic name like "Worksheet in (name of master file)" or "Document in (name of master file)". Is there any way these names can be adjusted? Either from the name of the source file or manually changed to something else?

I'm aware that you can change the icon name, but this does not seem to reflect in the actual title of the object once opened.

Thank you!

    Hi Marykmat419,

Based on my search and test, it appears there’s no way to rename a file title embedded as an object. You are correct, changing the icon name does not affect the embedded file name, it still shows “Worksheet in (Master file name)” or “Document in (Master file name)”.

When we open multiple embedded objects at the same time, Excel simply adds a number and this number increases as we open the objects.

I suppose this is because Embedded objects become part of the Excel workbook, after they are inserted, and they are no longer connected to any source file. Whereas file inserted as a linked object shows the actual name of the source and can be updated if the source file is modified.

I understand your requirement, it can get confusing if many objects are opened. In this regard, I’ll suggest you post in Excel UserVoice and let the Product Group know your requirement. UserVoice is the best way to give the feedback to Product Group as it’s actively monitored by them and many new features have been implemented from our customers feedback.

    We appreciate your understanding.

    Kind Regards,

    Neha
