Keyboard shortcuts not working correctly in Excel Online

Hello.  I have a coworker that is trying to use the shortcut ctrl+shift+v to paste values only in Excel online.  However, it is pasting incorrect values.  For example, if she copies a value of 24.96, and tries to paste the value only, it returns 24.00.  If she tries to copy and paste anything less than 1, i.e. 0.66, it will return 1/0/1900.  If she just copies and pastes the entire cell formatting and all, the correct value gets pasted.

She is working in a shared workbook in Excel Online.  I have tested this out on my name, and I am not having the same problem she is.  I have tried to look through the settings to see if there was anything that I can find, to no avail.

Does anybody have any suggestions on a fix for this?

    Waqas,

Thank you again for the response.  I had her try again this morning with ctrl+shift+v and it is back to working correctly now.  I did not have her try to choose the past values from the right click menu.  But, I know 95% of the time when we try to right click and choose paste values from the menu, it pops up with an error box about not being able to access the clipboard and tells us to use the keyboard shortcuts.

Thank you for trying to help resolve the issue.

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

We appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests and shared the test results with us. I do understand the inconvenience it has made and apologize for it. And we’re still glad to help you.

It seems issue happened to only one specific user in even separate workbook excel online. To help with us to narrow down your issue please try to use another browser or open Excel file in-private browser and see if any improvement.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas,

Thank you again for the response.  She was using Google Chrome, so I had her try Microsoft Edge.  It gave her the same issue.  When I had her open the file in the Excel desktop app, it pasted just fine.  So, it appears to be an issue with Excel Online only.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    My pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, I have tested from my side in shared Excel workbook online and it work as expected.

Based on my test if you cell or rang of cell format cell into date it will show incorrect value as you mention. I suggest you please try to select cell or range of cell and right-click the cell chose “Number Format” in drop down menu and select “General” it should be pasted correct value.

Please give a shot on following methods and see the result.

1: Switch to a different browser and open Excel workbook. Microsoft Edge is recommended.

2: Clear browser’s data. For Microsoft Edge, you can Click “. . .”  > Setting > Clear browser data.

In addition, please also check the Keyboard Shortcuts settings for Excel for Web and see whether the right shortcuts have been assigned. You can go to Help menu > Keyboard Shortcuts to verify it. For your reference: Control keyboard shortcuts in Excel for the web by overriding browser keyboard shortcuts

If issue still persist, may I know from you at your convenience does this problem only occur in this workbook opened in online? You can also try to create a new workbook and open it in online and see whether the shortcuts work properly.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas,

Thank you for the reply, but I already understand all of that.  My issue is that it isn't pasting the values correctly.

As I stated before, if the number is 24.96, it will simply paste as 24.00.  And if the number is less than 1, it will default to 1/0/1900.

I do not believe that this is a number format issue, as other users in the same exact workbook copy and paste the exact same thing and it will paste correctly in their workbooks.  The issue is only happening for one particular user.

We have also tried in a separate workbook with her and it has given the same results.  We have not tested in the Excel desktop app.  This has only been tested in Excel Online and Microsoft Teams.  The issue is happening in both of those instances.

I will have her clear her data and we'll see if that fixes it.

    I appreciate the help!

    Mike
