Opening excel in word chart

I have difficulty with inserting a chart on my word! I'm using Office 365

When I insert a chart in my word, I cannot click on "Edit data" and the button is disabled. Moreover, when the chart is inserted, an excel file comes for less than half a second, and it suddenly disappears. When I click on other buttons to change the chart data, an error appears which is saying that the current grid data editing is open, and I do have to close it before opening a new one, while nothing is open on my screen. I'm struggling with this issue for about a week. Please help!

    Hi radinsoltani,

As per your description, you can’t edit data of this inserted chart in Word because the Edit Data button was greyed out. And the Excel windows appears half a second then just disappeared.

I have tested at our end, the Excel windows will keep showing and the “Edit Data/Edit Data in Excel” are all available. To narrow down this issue, we suggest you try these steps and check the result:

    1.  Create a new Word document and check whether issue happens in specific document or all documents.
    2. Run Online Repair to try to fix this issue.
    3. Insert chart in PowerPoint to check whether issue happens in PowerPoint.

Moreover, we would like to collect the screenshot of Office products information. You can go to Word-> File-> Account-> Products Information and take a screenshot. If it’s available, you can take a screenshot of this error” the current grid data editing is open, and I do have to close it before opening a new one”, it will help us understand better.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Regards,

    Ivy

    Hello

I've tried in a new word file, it had the same problem as I had before.

I've already done the repair many times, both online and offline.

and I tried it in the PowerPoint and I had the same problem again, and after a few seconds, PowerPoint stopped working. After force stopping the PowerPoint, I couldn't open it again until I restarted my PC and that's the same problem that I have with word as well.

    Hi radinsoltani,

Thanks for providing the version information.

Since you are using the latest version of Office and it seems like this issue also happens to PowerPoint, we suggest you try to start Word in Safe mode and check whether is related to add-ins.

If issue persists, we suggest you create a new user account and start PowerPoint to check whether issue happens again. We understand you have tried Online Repair, please have a try and share the result with us.

As a workaround, you can create a chart in Excel workbook and use Paste Options-> Link Data feature to link the chart in Word document if it's available.

Last, we would like to know which Office product you are using? Can you provide the screenshot of Control Panel-> Programs and Features->Office Products?

    Appreciate your cooperation and patience.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

    Hello Ivy

I tried the safe mode, but again, it didn't work.

I logged out of my own account and signed in to another one, but it didn't help me with inserting a chart.

    The screenshot is attached below.

    Dear radinsoltani,

    Thanks for your further test.

Since this issue happens in another user account, we want to determine whether issue is related to your PC environment or other programs.

Please follow the steps in this article to perform a clean boot in Windows. So that we can determine whether a background program is interfering Office applications. If your problem does not occur while the computer is in a clean boot environment, then you can determine which startup application or service is causing the problem by systematically turning them on or off and restarting the computer.

Moreover, if the issue persists in clean boot, we suggest you use Office uninstall support tool to uninstall Office completely and reinstall Office from the portal. Please follow the steps in this article: Option 2 - Completely uninstall Office with the uninstall support tool

We understand you have done many troubleshooting steps and we appreciate for it. I hope this issue could be resolved so please have a try. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy
