Autocorrect in Word Comments

I am a teacher with a large library of autocorrect settings for grading. For example, when I type "RO" Word automatically changes it to "Run-On."

Today, I got a notification that Word made some "changes" to how comments work, and now none of my autocorrect options are working in the comment balloons (which I also hate---what happened to the pane?!).

I have "Replace text as you type" checked.

I have tried replacing my autocorrect options anew.

How can I get my autocorrect to work in Word comments with these new horrible changes? Or how can I uninstall whatever update ruined my workflow?

Issues (Deficiencies) with the "Modern" Comments facility have been brought to the attention of the Word Product Team who had admitted that it is a work in progress.

At the moment, the only thing that you can do to re-instate that functionality is to follow the procedure at the following website to revert to an earlier version of Office.

While it doesn't address the question you asked, you may find https://gmayor.com/insert_custom_comments.htm useful, as it was designed for the task you are performing.

You can save your existing autocorrect entries to a file using AutoCorrect backup from https://jay-freedman.info/. This produces the autocorrects in tabular format. If you delete the entries irrelevant to the task, then delete the left and right columns, the title and the table header, you can save the document as plain text and that text file can be imported into the commenting tool. In the meantime you can test it with the example entries.
