Data Validation Error

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can assist with this error.  I have a short drop-down list set via data validation and I'm receiving the error "Data validation error".  This error popped up when I unchecked the "Ignore blank" box on the Settings tab within data validation and I can't find out why this error is showing.

I know I can click "Ignore Error" and rid the entry of the caution sign, however, I would like to learn the reason behind the error.

I appreciate any assistance you can lend.

Sincerely,

Michael Antonelli

    Hi Michael Antonelli,

I apologize for all the trouble it has caused and sorry about your time.

As per your description, it only seems to apply to instances where your Data Validation allows list items from a Named Range that contains blank cells. When Ignore Blanks is checked, users can type any non-list value in the Data validation cell without raising an error.

When Ignore Blanks is un-checked, entering non-list items causes a Data validation error. However, they can select the blanks in the list.

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad
