Does anyone know how to fix this so the expand/hide buttons line up with the heading row?

    Hi Tina,

I have figured this issue out and wanted to share so that it can help others who may not know this either. :)

    1. Expand the grouped rows in your spreadsheet.
    2. Select the section of rows and go to the Data tab and then in the Outline/Group section select the arrow in the bottom right box to open Settings. By default, both "Directions" are checked. Uncheck the top box "Summary rows below detail" and it will make the + sign line up with the heading row.

    Hi DebL66,

Thank you for querying in the forum.

From the screenshot you provided, it seems you manually increased the row's height as it seems like it's bigger than the default row height in Excel. (If I misunderstand anything, feel free to correct me)

When I test from my side to create outline of rows in Excel, I find that the expand button is lined up with row heading as below. (it's the default row height)

But if I manually increase row's height, the expand button will be lined to the middle place of row not the row heading, as shown below:

May I know if above is the situation from your side?

Do you want to make the expand button line up with the row heading(the row number)?

Besides, please also share with us your Office version. Please click File>Account, capture a full screenshot of Product Information.

Thanks for your patience and effort. Hope you have a nice day!

    Best Regards,

    Tina

    Hi Tina,

The header rows are increased to allow for the symbol next to it. I changed to row height to default setting and removed the symbols and they still line up off-set. I am trying to manipulate the + symbols to be directly next to the headings but am wondering if it can't be done. Thank you!

    Hi DebL66,

Thank you for posting back and sharing the screenshots to describe the details about your requirement.

I have tested in different channels of Excel(Semi-Annual Enterprise, Current Channel) and I can reproduce the same behavior as shown in your screenshots.

Unfortunately I don't find any way to change the behavior. Sorry to say that it cannot meet your requirement. I could understand the frustration and feel very sorry about it.

Given this situation, I sincerely recommend sharing your valuable feedback by clicking File>Feedback in Excel, feedback submit in this way directly goes to the related team, this is the best way to let the developers know your requirements and suggestions and help to improve the product.

Sorry for the inconvenience again. We appreciate your understanding.

Hope you are keeping safe and well.

    Best Regards,

    Tina
