Excel files - Upload failed error. When editing file using desktop app from SharePoint Online document library.

Hi Team,

Seeing an issue only in files with extension .xslx saved in SharePoint Online document library. Below are points-

  1. User edits the file and on closing it, gets an error: " Filename.xslx was not uploaded to the server. "
  2. A copy of this file appears in Office Upload center.
  3. However the file edits are saved!

Could you please let me know how to fix this?

As a workaround, files are synced using OneDrive. But its not feasible to sync all the SharePoint library used.

    Hi KSMB,

Based on your description, user will encounter a”

Filename.xslx was not uploaded to the server” error when editing and saving a file stored in SharePoint Online from Excel desktop application. And this file can see in the Office Upload Center.

Given this situation, I suggest you open the Office Upload Center and try to upload this file first. (To upload all files that are pending upload in the Upload Center, click Upload All.) After this action, please follow the steps below:

    1.    Go to OneDrive sync client-> Setting-> Office-> check the option “User Office application to sync Office files that I o****pen”.

    2.    In Excel, remove this problematic file in Recent list. (Open File-> Recent-> Right-click-> Remove from the list.)

    3.    Reopen this file from Excel-> Fie-> Open-> SharePoint site location. And check if you can edit and save this file.

If issue persists, please provide the screenshot of this error and the Excel product information. May I know whether issue happens to a specific file or all the SharePoint files?

It will help us move further. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

    Hi KSMB,

    Thanks for providing further information.

From the screenshot, your Office is not up to date. We suggest you update the Office to the latest version and check the result. (In Excel-> Account-> Update Options-> Update Now.) For your reference: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date)

If issue persists, you may need to clear the cache of Office Upload Center:

Open Office Upload Center> Settings> Delete Cached files

You can feel free to share the result with us.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy
