A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
I don't know of any way for user to directly control the display of those specific symbols. It is handled by the application.
Can you click in that area to pop up the underlying drop down dialog?
.
Try the standard trouble shooting stuff, in this case, start with an additional step:
#1 rebuild the icon cache
#2 Repair Office
#3 method 1 uninstall / reinstall Office
#4 method 2 uninstall / reinstall Office

Rebuild the Icon Cache:
This tip has 2 versions of same tip. You can either download and run their batch file, or if you prefer not to trust a download (a reasonable security precaution) they give you the commands to manually recreate the batch process.

Rebuild the Icon Cache (take 2)
This article has 2 suggestions The commands here are a repeat of the previous tip, so no need to repeat. Or you could use the suggested tool. I have used and trust WinAeroTweaker. I use it to reset system font and font size to make icons more readable on desktop

Rebuild the Icon Cache (take 3)
This tip is a restatement of the previous tips if there is something in them you don’t understantd.

Note: The %homepath% did now work in the command window on my computer, but it worked when I pasted it into File Explorer. I then copied the patch from explorer and used it in the CD command.
To Manually Rebuild the Icon Cache using the Command Prompt
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html
I (Ron) have successfully used this tip on Win10
1. Close and save anything that you are working on. This command will kill explorer and restart the computer when completed.
2. Open a command prompt in Windows 7 or **Windows 8**.
3. In the command prompt, Copy and paste each command line below exactly as is one at a time and press enter after each command.
WARNING: The last command will restart the computer, so be sure to close and save anything that you are working on first.
NOTE: the second command will kill explorer so your taskbar and all desktop icons will disappear, not to worry!
ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
DEL “%localappdata%\IconCache.db” /A
DEL “%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*” /A
shutdown /r /f /t 00
4. The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.
5. If the icons are still not displaying properly, then download and merge the ICO option in this tutorial for Windows 7 or **Windows 8** to restore the default associations of .ico (icon) files.

Repair Office 365 / 2019 / 2016 / 2013 / 2010
Need to make sure that Word is installed correctly from the original installation CDs? You can do it by using a command built directly into Word.
.
Here are some similar articles describing how to do Office Repairs for various versions of Office and Windows. Pick the one that easiest for you to understand

Uninstall Office 365 – 2007
.
Method 1: Uninstall from Control Panel (or Settings dialog)
Method 2: Completely uninstall Office with the uninstall support tool (SetupProd_OffScrub.exe Which installs S.A.R.A.)
Method 3: Remove manually (Registry Hack)
.
The Method 1, “Normal uninstall”, is designed with the assumption that you will be re-installing Office. It does NOT delete everything. It leaves configuration files like NORMAL.DOTM and other templates etc. It also leaves configuration Registry entries. Normally these “carry-overs” are safe. But if method 1 didn’t fix your problem, they may be the cause.
Note:Method 1 includes links to Office version specific re-install instructions
.
Method 2 (and 3) are intended to completely wipe Office from your computer
.
This captures shows a computer with 2 Office installations, 365 and 2016 Pro Plus (that needs activation to work)
Office File Account - 365 activated Pro Plus 2016 not activated.jpg
.
Method 2: Downloaded tool (SetupProd_OffScrub.exe Which installs S.A.R.A.)
So if Method 1 doesn’t fix your problem, try Method 2. Method 2 does a more thorough job that the “normal” uninstall (aka Method 1). It deletes “everything” associated with Office except your personal (document, spreadsheet etc) files created using Office
.
* Boot the computer.
* After the restart go to **http://office.com/myaccount to re-install Office 365**.
.
**http://www.thewindowsclub.com/uninstall-microsoft-office-2013-365** - This page is a “how-to” on using 27390501 and has screen captures of the whole uninstall process. That is the earlier version of the tool that is now downloaded. I haven’t used the new tool so I don’t know how much different it is (Please let me know so I can update my notes if it is too different to use these notes)
.
NOTE: BEFORE you start the uninstall,
If you have an Office 365 bundle or Office 2016 / 2019, make sure you can access the MyAccount page so you can reinstall.
.
If you have Office 2013/2016 make sure you have your 25 character product key.
.
If you have 2010 or earlier, you need the full 25 character Product Key to activate Office. If need be, you can “extract” the key from Windows.
