Hi, I have created a new list from an excel document but I am trying to set a column so that it must have a value however when i go to column settings and edit the grey button is greyed out. I have tried amending different settings but it is always greyed out, even if just trying to rename a column.

Can anyone please help?

    Hi James,

Thank you for your post in our forum.

Per your description, may I know your column is ManagedMetadata column and your operation is like the below screenshot?

    Image

If so, we would like to explain that you can go to the Settings > List Settings >Columns > fin the column and click on its name, it will redirect you to the column edit page and you can edit the column there, for more details, you can see Can't edit/delete calculated column from sharepoint list.

However, if you still can’t edit the column, could you please provide some information so that we can test on our end?

    1. The types of your column.
    2. The screenshot of the column edit page. Go to the Settings > List Settings >Columns > fin the column and click on its name.’
    3. Do you assign the Edit permission level or higher to edit list columns?

Hope this can help you. If you have any confusion, you can post back, and we will continue to help you. 😊 Have a good day!

    Best regards,

    Cindy
