Trendline color not matching data series color

Hi I have a scatter plot with two data series in different colors (orange and blue). When I go to add a trendline on one data series (orange), it colors it the same as the other data series (blue). Then when I add a trendline to the blue series, it is orange. I have double-checked to make sure I have the correct series selected in each case. How do I get trendlines to default to their series' color?

I'm using Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, but I have had this same problem in earlier versions of Excel, too.

(BTW, when I change the colors of the trendlines to match their series, save the spreadsheet, and reopen it, both trendlines are orange - but I'm submitting that issue as a separate help question.)

    Hi Ellen!

I'm Jen, an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

Try to create a copy of the entire sheet. On the new sheet, try to change the colors of the trendlines and save your work then check if the new changes were saved. You may check out this similar concern in the community forum.

    Hi Jen,

Thank you for the suggestion. I right-clicked on the sheet's tab, selected "Move or Copy..." and copied the sheet to a new workbook. I fixed the trendline colors, saved the new workbook, closed it and reopened it, but the changes didn't save. The trendlines are both still orange.

Next I will try the suggestions at the other forum discussion you added a link for, for opening Excel in safe mode and disabling add-ins, and will report back if that works.

    Hi Ellen,

Have you tried copying the table of data only to a new workbook (not moving or copying the sheet) and then recreate the graph from there? But if it still doesn't work, you can start excel in safe mode and disable add-ins like you said. If the problem is still unresolved, you could consider performing a "Quick Repair". Here's how to repair Office.

Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Jen :)
