Documents disappearing in highlighted Content webpart depending on sort order

Hi,

We're using the highlighted content webpart extensively on hundreds of modern communication pages. We've had numerous issues in the past already, like all linked articles disappearing on translated pages, which forced us to replace hundreds of hc-webparts with news-webparts.

This time around, it's the displaying of documents that is affected. Depending on the selected sort order, most or all documents disappear in the highlighted content webpart. Only when sorting by newest, all will be visible, but unfortunately we're only sorting by title on all our pages.

Anyone got a solution? I tried re-indexing the entire site and document library but that didn't help.

Yes, the problem happens on all pages, including the translated ones. We've had problems in the past with the HC-webpart on multi-language pages when linking to articles and documents, so I suspect there are issues when using the highlighted content webpart in a multi-language environment.

Since I am the admin, I opened a ticket as suggested. It's extremely frustrating how often Sharepoint online keeps breaking without me making any changes to the sites at all. If Microsoft won't improve their quality controls before rolling out updates, I will have to start phasing out Sharepoint online with all my clients since I'm spending dozens of unpaid hours each month working around your bugs.

    Hi,

Sorry for the trouble caused by this issue. Appreciate that you share the gif picture to describe the details.

From the information provided, when you sort by Title in highlighted content web part of a modern page, it doesn't display all documents. When you sort by Newest all documents are visible which means the Filter setting above should be OK, so re-indexing the site may not help.

And it seems the issue happens on all your pages.

I have also tested the highlighted content web part on different pages from my side, I cannot reproduce the issue when I try to sort by Title.

Given this situation, I suggest you inform your Microsoft 365 admin of this issue, ask him/her to create a support ticket in Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>New service request.

This would be the best way to help you troubleshoot the issue, the support team there has the correct escalation channel for this case, this is also the most efficient method in handling this kind of issue.

Your understanding and patience is highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Tina
