Full Url path for SharePoint file in File Explorer

Good Morning,

Have an issue and looking to see if there's an easy fix.

We currently use both OneDrive and SharePoint sync to mirror file copies between the users systems and the cloud.

I've had a request to see if it is possible to get the full URL address for a synced Sharepoint file from within File Explorer so that it can then be linked into another program as an attachment.

I've been trying to research this for days now and not coming up with any viable solution, so thought I'd toss this out here and see if there's a way.

If it's not possible, that's fine, I'll tell the team to use the web to get the address but that can be tough with some of our sales staff always on the road and not always able to get an internet connection.

Thank you

Kendra

    Hi Kendra,

From your post, we understand you want to find the full path of the file stored in SharePoint online/ OneDrive for business synced to your local computer.

To find the path, open any Office file from the synced folder in File Explorer, let’s say you open an Excel workbook. Once the workbook is opened, click File>info>Copy path and paste this path to a notepad. Alternatively, you can click File>Home, under Recent list, find the file you want the path for, right click on it and click Copy path to clipboard from the context menu.

If you need further help, let us know. Have a nice day and stay safe😊

    Regards,

    Neha

Thank you for this information, the team was looking to do it directly from File Explorer without having to open files, etc., but I've told them, can't be done, they have to either do it this way or get the link from the web.

    Appreciate the response.

    Hi Kendra,

The full path of SharePoint location can only be found from within the app, unfortunately, there's no way to get this info from File Explorer.

Thanks for your understanding and co-operation.

    Kind Regards,

    Neha

Is there a programmatic way to do this? Looking to convert it in C# code.
