When you save an untitled document (one that has not been saved to disk yet), Word suggests the default save location specified at File > Options > Save.
creating file out of dotx - choosing save location
Hi there
We work often with dotx files - respectivly we create new files based on dotx. Now if we want to save such a file, we allways have to click our way threw to get back to the folder we have placed that dotx - as it is the same folder in which we want to save the new docx's.
Is there a way to change that, so that for the new files the preset folder is automatically the one, from where you generated the file?
I hope the question is clear, otherwise just ask and I can try to paraphrase it some other way.
Thanks for your help!

The files that you create from such templates should NOT be saved in either of those templates folders. You however set the default folder in which your documents are saved by going to File>Options>Save and check the box for Save to Computer by Default and then set the Default local file location by clicking on the Browse button indicated in the following screen shot.

In our specific case its a template we need to adjust every two months and all files generated out of this template end up in the same folder (edit - specification: it's one folder for each version of the template, not one folder for everything). That's the reason the template is not in the generic template location and why I'd like to have the default location from this templates in the same folder as the template itself.
As I understand it, your solution sets the default folder for all word documents and not just the ones generated ouf of this specific dotx. Or am I wrong?
