According to Microsoft's Azure Analysis Services documentation:

"Measures can be based on standard aggregation functions, such as AVERAGE, COUNT, or SUM."

But which aggregation function is the default? Is it SUM? Also, can the default aggregation function be changed so end users can have a different default when they create their own measures?

    Hi @james.h.robinson.csm@gmail.com ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform.

Measures need to be defined explicitly with aggregation functions while creation as below(Testmeasure in the snap) and hence there is no default aggregation that is applied in analysis services model.

Hope this helps! Do let us know for more queries.
