DOWNLOADED FONTS

Now here's a conundrum. I've downloaded new fonts into Word for use in designing a front cover for my latest book. I use word exclusively for design because it's powerful. I ended up with a docx file which looked great. But I had to convert the docx to a png format so I could upload the cover.

However, after converting the file to PNG the resulting image did not recognize the downloaded fonts. In fact, the result was awful. Not only did the new fonts not appear but letters had disappeared from some of the words.

Is this a problem with file conversion or a problem with Word? I don't think the latter, so it must be a file conversion problem. Can anyone help me with this issue and suggest a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Get hold of Snagit from www.techsmith.com and use the Snagit printer to print the cover page. It will open in the Snagit editor and in that, you can save the image in various graphic formats.

Thnx. I've started to use Publisher and it appears the original fonts appear Ok when converted to PNG. Thanks for your suggestion

Word is a powerful word processor, and it is certainly capable of producing a book, but it is not really designed for graphics creation. If you have a version of Office that includes Publisher, you might try using that to create your cover. You should be able to save as a PNG from that application. Alternatively, can you submit a PDF for the cover? You can create a PDF that has the fonts embedded.

How are you currently saving the cover from Word as a JPEG or PNG? Are you using Save as Picture? This option is available in Publisher as well, but Publisher also includes the option to use Save As and select PNG as the file format.

Thanks. I can only upload a cover in either JPG or PNG format. I tried converting docx to jpg and got the same error as I did with PNG conversion.

I don't have any publisher skills so it would mean a steep learning curve. That's not a problem but how can I be assured I won't have the same conversion problems that I have with docx to png conversion?

    Hi grahamsealby1,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you have downloaded a font and used it in your document, then you covert it to png file and you found it cannot recognize the font, and letters has disappeared from some of the words.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, generally, in Word application we may not convert document to PNG directly, according to your description, you are using third-party tool to convert Word document to PNG file. Given this situation, we assume that your File conversion may not recognize the fonts you provided, we’d suggest you save your document as PDF file, then you can use file conversion to convert PDF file to check if it will remain the font you download.

At the same time, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the Product Information and version of Word? You can go to Word > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it.
    2. May I know which fonts you have downloaded? Could you provide the detailed name of fonts?
    3. Could you provide the name of File Conversion you are using?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
