Excel Searches for Add-In After Removing/Deleting

I deleted a Third-party Excel add-in by deleting the root file and by selecting "Delete from list" when prompted when excel searches for it. Every time I close and reopen Excel the "Cannot find add-in...." error message reappears. Is there any way to prevent this error message? Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thank Ivy,

I tried the workflow you suggested, but still getting the missing .xla file error message even after selecting "Yes" to delete from list and reopening excel. It is not permanently deleting and by default when I open a new excel workbook it is searching for the old add-in file which I moved.

I did find a work around. I reinstalled the add-in and made a copy of the .xla file and moved it to the exact location in the error message (original). Then when opening the a new excel workbook I can go under add-ins and uncheck/remove it. Now by default excel is not searching for the .xla file when starting up.

Reinstall that add-in from its provider, once done then uninstall via add/remove dialogue

    Hi.

As per your description provided, I have done the simple test at my end by downloading the SMF Add-In and deleted the third-party add-in folder. After deleting, here are the screenshots we encountered after opening Excel application:

Clicking on OK, will open the Excel application.

When I go to Add-ins window, I can still see the third-party add-in in the Active Add-ins:

When I manage the Excel Add-ins and unchecking the Option will prompt the same as your scenario:

Clicking on Yes will remove the add-in from the list in the Add-ins window and also removed from Add-ins window:

Since at your end Excel is finding for the file, please try to quit the Excel application and restart your PC to check whether clicking on Yes will remove the third-party add-in.

If no, I would like to know whether you have deleted only XLA add-in file or remove complete extracted folder?

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

I tried reinstalling the add-in, but the missing .xla file error still pops up after selecting "Yes" to delete from list and reopening excel. It is not permanently deleting and by default when I open a new excel workbook it is searching for the old add-in file which I moved.
