    Hi KZ_A,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you have created .xlsb Excel file with charts and data, then you copied charts to PowerPoint. However, when you opened PowerPoint file and changed the charts data, the source excel file that appeared with grey color and no data inside.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we have tested it on our side with the latest version of PowerPoint and Excel, we created data and inserted a chart in Excel file and saved it as .xlsb file, then we copied the chart into PowerPoint file and clicked Paste specific > Paste link, then it shows the chart in PowerPoint file, then we right-clicked the chart and select Edit, we can edit file without any problem, as shown below:

If the steps above are consistent with yours, we’d give you the suggestions below and hope that will help you:

    1. If all Excel files have the same problem, this issue may be related to Excel client, we’d suggest you refer to this article: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps to achieve the latest version of Office. Then you can update your Office to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.
    2. If all files have the same problem, we suggest you try to Online repair to check if it will help. Repair an Office application.

If the same problem still persists after trying the suggestions above, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below?

    1. May I know if all files have the same problem? You can create a new Excel .xlsb file and new PowerPoint file, then copy chart to PowerPoint file to check if the same problem will occur.
    2. Could you provide the Product Information and version of Office? You can go to Excel > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it.
    3. Could you provide the screenshot of “grey color and no data inside”?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Suki,

Many thanks for your detail explanation.

    Sorry for late reply.

Yes, you are right. I did same.

    My answers concerned your questions:

    1. Only one file happened that issue what I confused is that I moved old data (with run macro) into that excel file and link to that old data. Then issue occurred automatically. Therefore, now I created pure binary file and linked with Power Point . (let's see, issue will occur or not in future).
    2. I 'm using E3
    3. I have deleted that file and did not take ss.

    Thanks,

    KZ_A

    Hi KZ_A,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the information with us. We’re sorry for the late reply due to the weekend.

Per your description, this issue only occurs on specific Excel file which contains VBA code, and you have created a new pure binary file without VBA code and linked with PowerPoint file.

If my understanding is right and if you have any updates, you can post back and we will try our best to help you. If my understanding is not right, could you provide more details about “I have deleted that file and did not take ss”?

Thank you for your patience so far.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
