Excel shared file not showing version history

Hello,

I have been using a shared file since six months ago with a group of people. Since the beginning I was able to check the version history, but since couple of weeks ago the file is not displaying that information.

I just got the following message:

Something went wrong

Hmm... looks like we can't show you the version history for this file right now.

Does anybody experienced that problem in the past? Could you guide me on how I can fix this issue, please?

Thanks!

    Hi Edgardo (Health)

Thanks for posting the thread on our forum.

According to your description, it seems that you can’t see your file version history and get the error message.

As per your description, please don’t worry we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Here are  the suggestions below we request you give it a try:

    1. Please try to change another browser to see if you can find the version history.
    2. Open the file in Excel client>File>Infro>version history to see the result.

    1. If you synchronized your document library via OneDrive Sync. Go to the file explorer>find the file>right click it>version history to see the behavior.

    1. Meanwhile, we want  to confirm some information with you to help us narrow down the issue.
    1. May I know if other users can access the version history?
    2. Please check if all files meet the issue.

    Appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Regards,

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

My apologies for the late response.

Answering your questions: 1) Any user get version history. 2) This is the only file having this issue.

As advised I tried with a different browser, but I experienced the same problem.

Then, I went to the OneDrive folder and I got the version history information.

Thanks in advance for the next steps recommended to fix this problem.

    Regards,

    Edgardo.

    Hi Edgardo (Health)

Thank you for coming back to forum. We also appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests ad providing the detailed information to us.

Based on your description, the issue only happened in the specific file on your end, and other user can see the version history.

    1. Since you mentioned you can see the version history in the OneDrive folder, please save a copy from the folder then open the file to see if you can find the version history.
    2. Please delete the file in your end, then ask other user re-share the file with you, then try to see if you can see the version history.

Hope the suggestion can help you.

    Regards,

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

I think I didn't explained myself correctly. Any of the users that have access to the folder can access the version history. Everybody is experiencing the same problem.

    Regarding your advise:

    1. I can see the version history on the original file (the one stored in OneNote).
    2. Not applicable since everybody has the same problem and also I'm the owner of the file.

Now I know that I can go to OneDrive, right click on the file and open the version history. The problem is that I can't do it from the web version and, more important, any other user can access it.

Is it a synchronization issue between the original file and the web page? Is there any option to fix it?

    Thanks!
