I am running macOS monterrey 12.0.1 , and I am having an extremely persistent issue with Autoupdate. I have been getting annoying messages for a very long time saying "we detected a problem with microsoft autoupdate" and it asks me to install the latest version. When I try to install the latest version, it appears to succeed, then immediately the same error message pops up again. Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

Hi JoelKatz5

Thank you for coming back to forum. We also appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests.

According to your description, you have reinstalled MAU, however, you cannot open it via Word and you cannot find it under Help tab.

If so, generally, you can open Finder > locate the path /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/ to find the name like “MAU” or “MAU2.0” and open that directory, then you can check if you can find MAU application under this folder, if not, you may not find Check for Update option in Office applications.

So we want to confirm if you have installed MAU with the same steps above, if not, you can install MAU according to the steps we provided above in the first reply.

If the above suggestions don’t work for you, to better understand your situation and narrow down this issue, could you provide the information below?

You can open Finder > locate the path /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/ to find the name like “MAU” or “MAU2.0” and open that directory to check if you can find Microsoft AutoUpdate application.

Regards,

Stacey

When I finish the installation of MAU, it launches, but if I close it, the program seems to not be installed correctly, mac doesn't recognize it as a program, and Word is not aware of it (hence it is not in the dropdown menu). So when I do have the program open, I managed to find a logs file that I can send if that will help. It's called "TelemetryUploadFilecom.microsoft.autoupdate2.txt"

The help dropdown menu does not have the "check for updates option". Only a search (check for updates does not come up when I search), "What's new", "Contact Support", and "Feedback". I believe the installation of MAU is not succeeding when I attempt to install it. So no matter how many times I have attempted to install MAU from that page you linked, it simply won't succeed installation.
