Can't edit the view filter

Hi, I'm trying to edit the view filter on the view settings in Mcrosoft Lists, and I see the following text.

"This view has a complex filter which cannot be edited here."

I have no idea why this message is displayed because I haven't changed any filter settings.

How can I edit it afterwards?

    Hi Sandi-MPC,

I understand your situation but based on my seach, I didn't find a way to edit the filter in the problematic view. The only option I suppose is to create a new All Items views which will allow you to edit the view and see all the items.

Besides, if you want to find the root cause, I will suggest you contact your tenant admin to create a support ticket to Microsoft. We really want to help but we don’t have any resource or escalation channel to escalate this case further. Sorry for not being able to help here.

Once you reach the assisted support for the request, they will help you find the root cause, the support there can also contact the related team if necessary. To create support ticket, admin can go to Microsoft 365 Admin center>Support>New service request. You may also refer to Contact support for business products - Admin Help.

Thanks for understanding. Have a nice day and stay safe.

    Kind Regards,

    Neha

    Hi WH_111,

May I know if you are modifying the view by selecting Edit current view from All items drop-down (as shown below)?

    Image

Please try editing the view from List Settings instead, scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see all your views, click the name of the view which your wish to modify, make the changes and click Save, see if it lets you edit the view now.

I understand sometimes the initial suggestion may not resolve the problem; however, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. If the issue persist, please provide us with the following information for our better understanding.

    1. May I know how many items in total are in the list and how many are visible in the view?
    2. Please check another list, see if you can edit the view. This will help us confirm if the issue is with a specific list or all lists have the same issue.
    3. May I know at which step you get the error? Could you please provide us with the steps to reproduce the issue.

    Regards,

    Neha

    Hello, Neha,

I've run into this same error message for a list on my business site. Initially, I created my view while viewing the "All Items" view and I had filtered on 2 columns. Both columns contain many values and I wanted 2 specific values from each of them. One column is a Status column and I wanted only status values 4 or 5. The other column contains abbreviations and I wanted ANA or KEN. I think the issue is that SharePoint typically handled all OR conditions first and then AND conditions. My filters would require the view to filter using OR, then AND, and then OR, which is a bit more complex. Unfortunately, I am now not able to edit my view.

I've tried both methods; I tried editing while my specific view is showing and I've tried going to List Settings and scrolling down to the appropriate list. Both methods cause the "This view has a complex filter which cannot be edited here."

Surely there is a way to get to the code that is in the background for this view. Can you help me?

    Thanks!

    Sandi

    Hi WH_111,

May I know if other users of the site are getting the same error when editing the filter?

I tried searching for the error to find the solution but seems like there are no similar cases. if possible, please try creating a new Standard View from List Settings, check if the error appears.

    Regards,

    Neha

    Hi, Neha.

    Thank you for your support.

    >>May I know if you are modifying the view by selecting Edit current view from All items drop-down (as shown below)?

→I'm editing from List Settings. Please see the screen capture below.

    1. May I know how many items in total are in the list and how many are visible in the view? >>There are about 50 items in the list and 40 items are visible now.
    2. Please check another list, see if you can edit the view. This will help us confirm if the issue is with a specific list or all lists have the same issue. >>I checked other lists and couldn't find the same problem.
    3. May I know at which step you get the error? Could you please provide us with the steps to reproduce the issue. >>This view was initially "All items" view (the default view), in which no filter was applied. At first, of course, I could see all items .
However, a few days ago, I found that some items were not displayed. I checked the filter settings and found the message above.

I might have done something by mistake, but I can't find the way to modify it.

    Kind regards,

    WH_111
