Microsoft Excel Track Changes function

A client needs some help to set up an Excel Spreadsheet to be shared and tracked. Part of the issue is that she and I both have Microsoft 365 and the tracking feature has been disabled for 365. She just started a new job and really needs to learn this function. The company sent her this outdated method -- see below -- she needs to know how to do this in 365.

Thanks in advance!

Here's what they sent her:

"From now on we will be using the Track Changes function in excel to keep track of the updates

we make to listings while we are doing a scrub. This will keep a detailed record of what data

cells were changed, who made the changes, when they were made, and what data that cell

used to contain.

New Process for Scrubs with Track Changes:

  1. Open the original directory export file you will be scrubbing (the one with

“_no_changes” at the end) and use the Save As feature to save another copy that

instead says “_track_changes” at the end

  1. Make the excel file a shared file and enable Track Changes:

a. Under the Design tab, in the Tools section, click “Convert to Range” and “yes”

b. Under the Review tab, click Track Changes > Highlight Changes

c. Check the box for “Track changes while editing. This also shares your workbook”

d. Make sure the boxes for “When”, “Who”, and “Highlight changes on screen” are

also checked and click Ok (it’s ok for it to save, if that box pops up next)

  1. Cells that you make changes to will have a comment mark in the corner where you can

hover over and see the original value and the last change that was made to that cell."

Thank you! That's what's what I was thinking.

    Hello Vmalin,

Office 365 Excel no longer supports the track changes function. Nearest I can tell, it was available for Office 2016.

I am unsure how our forum members can assist you and your friend using Office 365.
