Hello, Steven

Per your description you want to change a default expiration time for the shared files.

This parameter is managed by SharePoint administrator. In SharePoint admin center select Policies > Sharing > under Choose expiration and permissions options for Anyone links check the box next to These links must expire within this many days and set the amount.

Users can set an expiration date for the links selecting a file or folder and Share > Edit drop down menu > Link settings > Set expiration date.

I hope this information was useful for you. Feel free to post back to us if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Igor

    Hello, Steven

I apologize but I think I don’t understand your question. By my experience, the shared links do not expire unless the expiration date is set.

Specific people links don’t expire and there’s no option to set an expiration for those links.

The SharePoint administrator also can set guest access to expire in SharePoint admin center > Policies > Sharing > More external sharing settings > Guest access to a site or OneDrive will expire automatically after this many days.

Please correct me if my understanding isn’t applied to your situation.

    Regards,

    Igor

    Thanks for the updates, Igor

I thought there are some ways at backend to do some coding change to adjust the date…. Do you know the rational behind, why the dates are different?

    Thanks Igor

This is the setting for sharing with anyone, how about if I want to share with specific people? Can I change the default value from 30 to 14 days instead?

As seems there is different policy for share with anyone and share with specific people… Thanks

    Regards

    Steven
