I can't resize tables in word

the resize cursor does show on some tables only

    If the table spans across more than one page, you have to go to the last page for the table and resize it from there.

    For the tables that you cannot resize, you will need to put the selection in the first row of the second page of the table and then click on Split Table in the Merge section of the table Layout tab of the ribbon.

    that doesn't fix the issue, it only cuts the table into 2

    As Doug wrote, you have to split the table if you want to resize the "parts" separately.

    If you want to, share a sample document (in Word format) with the forum so that we can have a closer look. Upload the document to (say) OneDrive or Dropbox and post a share link in this thread. (Make sure that the sample document does not contain any sensitive data that you do not wish to share.)
