Word document protection options

Help on the protection feature for word documents that allow user editing in certain fields. Once protected the fields that will allow text input are highlighted with a yellow "bracket" that is not printed, its merely an "edit here" indicator.

Is there a way to edit this yellow highlighted bracket so it does not appear and the document looks normal when protected.

Thank you very much, yes I understand, the user option to not display this is fine, I was hoping I could save the file with the option selected so it opened with the highlights off.

Again, this is not something stored in the document.

Conceivably, you could have a macro that changes the user option upon opening your document. However, you can't control whether users will allow macros; any such macro would make a me angry and less trusting of the sender. (I probably would not allow the macro to run..) Try Doug's suggestion of the Group content control instead.

Doug has told you a way to not show the edit here highlighting. You should realize that this highlighting is a user option when you use the No Changes with exceptions method instead. It is not part of the document.

Use Content Controls for the fields and press CTRL+A to select all of the document and then use the Group facility in the Controls section of the Developer tab of the ribbon.

When data is entered into the controls, it will replace the "placeholder text" and will have the same appearance as ordinary text. However it is only into those controls that the user will be able to insert text.
