How do I create an excel tracker to generate codes starting with CR, so first row CR001, then the next line when someone wants to add description it generates CR002 automatically?

    Hi there

    You may try the following

    1. With the formula =IF(B2="","","CR"&TEXT(ROW()-ROW($A$1),"000"))

    OR

    1. Simply inserting the serial numbering in the "Code" column and Custom Format the range

    If a visual output is sufficient:

    Write just the numbers 1,2,3, etc into column A and format the column with this format:

    "CR"000

    Otherwise:

    You have to parse the number from the previous cell, increase by 1 and format the output.

    A2: ="CR" & RIGHT("000" & RIGHT(A1,3)+1,3)

    Andreas.
