Import csv files from folder problem

I am running a test to see how the Import CSV from File Folder works.

I have 2 files, containing 3 rows, which are exactly the same.

The csv files are comma deliminated.

In one of the columns of the 1st row there is a decimal number 31.7.

This is imported as 31.7.

In the 4th row of the imported data (which is the 1st row of the second file) the same number is 317.

I.e. the decimal has been removed.

This is repeated for all the other rows.

I cannot find any explanation for this.

I am located in the Netherl;ands. I am English so have US locale settings.

Previously I imported an xlsx file without problems, but the base system we use has now changed and it is now easier to load csv files.

But that is when the decimal/comma problems started.

    Colin,

my article is the solution to your issue, after you've changed the locale in the Power Query options it should be solved.

And as you have dates, you have to tweek the MCode also as I described in the article.

Upload a CSV file if you need further help.

    Andreas.

    Andreas,

    Many thanks for your reply.

I have not had chance to go through your explanations yet, but I am sure that this is the problem.

I have developed macros to do extensive reporting of result at my golf club.

The problem you are describing with the locale settings came up a few weeks ago.

I develop at home and then run the programm at the club.

I am located in the Netherl;ands. I am English so have US locale settings.

But all the software at the golf club is in Dutch and the locale settings are probably European.

Previously I imported an xlsx file without problems, but the base system we use has now changed and it is now easier to load csv files.

But that is when the decimal/comma problems started.

I'll have to make sure that the 2 PCs are in agreement with each other, but I am sure that how to do that will become obvious after I have gone through your explanations in detail.

    Best regards Colin.

Take a look into this article and see if it helps to solve your issue.

Otherwise zip a few of your CSV files, upload and post the download link here.
