excel show command label

Hi using Office 2016. A couple of weeks ago, I opened Excel and it had a different look. There was no green stripe across the top, and there were labels on the Quick Access Toolbar icons. I don't believe I did anything different to get this, but I like having the labels. Well, today, I opened Excel and I'm back to the old look with the icons being smaller and labels missing. I can find no way to restore them. I even did an office update -- No luck. An article I read says to right click on the Quick Access Toolbar and there will be an option to "Show Command Labels" but I don't have it. Only options are: Remove From Quick Access Toolbar; Customize Quick Access Toolbar; Show Quick Access Toolbar Above The RIbbon; Customize The Ribbon; and Collapse the Ribbon.

Is there a way to restore labels to the Quick Action Toolbar? Thanks, in advance!

Hi Fred,

I'm sorry but looks like this option is only available with the newer versions of Excel and only if the QAT is located below the ribbon. I also have the same version like yours (Office 2016) and I don't see these options in the ribbon. I suggest you send this suggestion to Microsoft through the Excel app by going to File > Feedback. They might consider this in the future updates. Thanks.

I appreciate your efforts and kind understanding. Stay safe and have a great day!

Best Regards,

Jen :)

    Hey Jen_L Yeah, guess that's it ... Just strange that I had it, and believe me it was jarring when it appeared ... But over the couple of weeks I had it I got to like it -- The larger icons are nice for those of us with old eyes ... It went away just as suddenly, no update or warning ... (Yes, I tried both WIndows and Office updates to regain the feature with no luck).

    Oh well, maybe it will come back again ... someday ... THANKS!

    I read the article you sent the link to , and I do not have all these options when I right click on the Quick Action Toolbar. There are only the following options:

    Remove From Quick Access Toolbar;

    Customize Quick Access Toolbar;

    Show Quick Access Toolbar Above The RIbbon;

    Customize The Ribbon; and

    Collapse the Ribbon.

    There are no options labeled Automatically Saved, More Commands, Hide Quick Access Toolbar, or Show Command Labels. Is there some way I can get these options?

    Hi FredVavrek!

    I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

    Have you checked this support article yet? If the Quick Access Toolbar is set below the ribbon, you can show or hide the command labels. Click Customize Quick Access Toolbar > click 'Show Command Labels' or go to File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar > check the option 'Always Show Command Labels'. Please check this link for more information.
