Excel 365: I added a row to a spreadsheet, and I can see the entry when it's listed alphabetically. But when I sort by date that row disappears? Any insight?

Hi Ellen,

This is a default behavior as in the Column G, Date Posted. You are mixing the date with strings.

Excel will not recognize these kind of value as a date value and the sorting function will not work correctly.

When using sorting function, newest to oldest, the mixed value will always be on the top.

After sorting, the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program row is in Row 16 which is first row have the correct pure date value in the G column.

Regards,

Alex Chen

Alex I am using the desktop. The rows are hidden because this is uploaded to our website and the extra blank rows were causing ADA issues. The only way I could get the extra columns/rows to disappear was to hide them Deleting was not working.

I tried several times and this is what i get:

this is sorted by date newest

So i don't know why it doesn't work for me but it does for you?

    Hi Ellen,

Thanks for sharing the Sample to us, and per my test, the newly add row is still available when sort on the date posted column.

May I confirm if you are seeing this issue in Excel desktop client or the Excel for web?

I notice in this workbook, a lot of rows/columns are hidden, that might be a cause of this issue.

Please try unhide the rows and sort again. See if that make any different.

Meanwhile, in order to protect your PII, I will mask your file link, as it contains your organization's tenant name.

    Hi Ellen,

It would be really helpful if you can share us a screenshot of the issue row.

Or even better, you can share us a sample of your Excel worksheet via OneDrive Sharing link. (please remove your confidential information in the worksheet)

    Share OneDrive files and folders

Appreciate for your patience and cooperation.

    Regards,

    Alex Chen
