Why does selecting chart not highlight data input sometimes

Some charts, you click in the white space and it will highlight the data being used in the chart for all data series on that chart. Other charts it won't do this or show any of the data, selecting a given series on the chart will show you where that data came from, but not all series. I noticed this occured when I pasted the chart formatting onto one chart from another chart. Both charts have the series data in a similar/related location and all next to each other in the same format. Wonder what causes when it does or doesn't display the input data? Cheers

Hi TJDack!

I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

Has the workbook been edited in an older version of Excel? Would you be able to attach a sample file with non-sensitive data? Here's how to share a file on Onedrive.

Thanks in advance. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'd be glad to assist you further.

Best Regards!

Jen :)
