Excel - How do I make Excel give me a Line Graph with only ONE LINE?

Hi. I have a simple x-y table. When I try to graph it (a line graph), excel keeps giving me two lines. I want one line, the x-axis, and y axis should only create ONE line. I have tried to go to formatting but nowhere does it allow me to "select data". I have also searched the web and other people tend to have no problem.

    Hi Tiffany1712:

Thank you for posting in our forum.

You can refer to joeu2004’s suggestion and analysis first, and at the same time, I also tested it in our side. The result shown as blew:

I chose the recommended chart. Insert->Recommended Charts:

You can also try to insert the chart in this way to check whether it can help you.

If the problem persists, please provide the following information to help us understand the problem more specifically:

    • Screenshot of the version information of the Excel you are using. (Open Excel>File->Account)

    Best regards,

    Tin

I think you want an X-Y Scatter chart with Straight Lines subtype.

PS.... The following describes the wrong way to do it.

A Line chart ignores the x-axis values. That is, they are simply labels, at best.

So, to get a single line in a Line chart, you would select range of Pressure values, insert a Line chart, then edit the Series to set the Horizontal Axis Labels to the range of Temperature values.

The exact details might vary with newer versions of Excel. But the point is: if you subsequently add a trendline, the x-values would be based on a series starting at 1, not Temperature.
